beginners mandala, easy mandala, mandala art, mandala for beginners

I felt the need for this post, to bust some myths and help beginners choose the right supplies. I am strictly against beginners using professional supplies. In the starting days, you should be practicing a lot. And it makes no sense using costly professional supplies for practice or rough work. As a kid, did you ever use your best and favorite pens in rough work? No, right ? Same applies here. So, in this post you will find a list of different affordable pens and fine liners that are best for beginners.

In this video I have explained regarding the use of pens and fine liners. This will give you a clarity on this topic. This is one of the most common question asked by a person. Which pens are suitable ? Honestly, you just need something to draw with. It can be a pen, or a pencil. Yes, you can draw a mandala using a pencil as well. As far as pens are concerned, any local good gel pen is also a very good option. I have used gel pens from local stationary stores, even for my commissioned artworks. You just need a good command on whatever you are using. The only thing to take care of, while choosing a pen is that it should have a good flow. It should have a constant and consistent flow for better finish, ease of use and neatness.

Giving you some good options of affordable pens and direct links to purchase them .

These are one of my earliest pens that I had used and continue to use till date. This comes in an amazing pack of 10 colored pens and have amazing flow. I have also uploaded a detailed video on my YouTube channel. These are vibrant, comfortable and smooth nib. One of the best fine liners in this price.

  • Pentonic Multicolor gel pens

These also come in an assorted pack of 10 pens. These are more vibrant and little broad nip as compared to Luxor finewriter.

These also come in an amazing case, which makes it look classy and easy to store. They give a Matte finish and are waterproof. What else can you ask in this price ?

Stic is one of the leading manufacturers in Stationary. You get an assorted pack of 20 colored pens at this price, which is amazing. They are equally fine as Luxor fine writer. They use water based ink along with Japanese micro technology tip. I have used these for multiple of my art commissions.

  • Pathos India Fineliner Color Pen Set

This comes in an assorted pack of 12 colored pens. The nib size is 0.4mm that makes it slightly finer as compared to the previous ones. The fine point colored pens have well protected pen tip with metal, avoid ink bleeding, tips are durable and hard to be wore out.

  • Staedtler Triangular Ball Pen

Staedtler is a brand that doesn't need any introduction. One of the best professional pens at an affordable price. These come in an assorted pack of 10 colors. One of the most unique things about these pens is that its automatic pressure equalization prevents pen from leaking on board aircraft as well. It has a triangular shape for relaxed and easy writing.

  • STABILO point 88 fineliners

These come in assorted packs of 6, 8, 10, 15, 25, 30 and 40. So, the best part is that you get a variety of set options to choose from. Unlike other assorted sets where you get a fixed color combination, here you get the liberty to choose the type of set. Overall it is available in 47 brilliant colors which is rarely found in any other fine liner brands.

  • Uni-ball Eye gel pens

I believe every Indian has used Uni-ball gel pens at one point of their life. These are one of the best quality and smooth flow pens. It was just a few years back that I came to know these were available in assorted packs as well. The best part about these pens are that these are easily available in local stationary shops and you can buy individual colors rather than buying the whole pack.

I believe this post answers lots of questions regarding the best pens to be used for Mandala artworks. Do share your review in the comment section, and also let me know your queries which I should address next.
